41 years ago Bonne Bell unveiled a BIGGY Christmas collection for Holiday 1984 that featured a blustery blizzard of frosted berries and candied sweets to gleam our glossers too for the most festive time of the year! Though it feels like Last Christmas (Wham's famous Christmas song also first hit the airwaves this same year), four decades have passed since these candy coated Smackers debuted. Holiday 1984 was a six piece collection that I split a whole year apart, starting with the Frost's last year, since Bonne Bell promoted this collection for both Holiday 1984 and Holiday 1985.

By 1984, Bonne Bell Lip Smackers were just 11 years on the market since their explosive 1973 debut. They were the leading flavored lip gloss on the market, I mean they did invent the category, and held this position in the decades to come. While there were handfuls of innovative flavors already, Bonne Bell brought back a few favorites from the original 1970's collection, with one brand spankin' new Smacker.
Unlike the Frosts from this collection, these flavors were sans the shimmer but still have that stunning Smacker shine with the lightest hint of tint in Candy Apple and Sugar Plum. The incredible retro block script the flavor names donned with the kitchy, animated details made these extra special. They also had the classic Bonne Bell logo of the time on them as well that only the Canadian Lip Smackers saw before this, making this a newly added embellishment for the decades design.
The Lip Smacker logo stayed the same through this era in the 1980's and didn't get an update until the end of the decade. They still used the "Good for your lips, shines and smoothes" slogan on the tubes which would eventually show up again in the 1990's and last seen in the early 2000's.
Holiday 1984 Candied Biggy's:
Candy Apple
Sugar Plum
Candy Cane
Candy Apple- A sinfully sweet and juicy red apple drizzled with a candied cinnamon glaze. This veiled lips in a sheer candy apple red hint of tint. This originally debuted in 1977 and was staple in Bonne Bell’s line-up, though it wasn’t brought back for nearly two decades after 1985
Sugar Plum- The classic Christmas flavor Bonne Bell made into a Holiday staple after its 1976 debut. A succulent sugared plum that was sweet and dreamy with a richness. It also deepened the lip color with a slight yummy plummy tint. This wasn’t brought back until 1989 and eventually became a Holiday regular by 1996.
Candy Cane- The world's best candy cane flavored lip product EVER! Seriously, one of my favorite Bonne Bell flavors EVER. It was a sharp, zingy peppermint that was a zap to the senses in the best way possible. The minute it hit your lips it was like a freeze frost of icy, candy coolness. Completely captivating and completely defined the smell and taste of Christmas for me. The color of the balm was originally the pretty pink you get from mixing the red and white colors of a candy cane but mine completely faded over the years as you see in the image below. This was used again for Holiday 1998 and one last time for Holiday 2005.

Gaze your eyes over the glossy glamour of this red glazed treat.
Look at the stunning sizzle and sparkle of the first new label get-up since her first 1976 debute.
Check out the cool and crisp chill of this bonafide Candy Cane classic.
These came with and without the iconic loop on the bottom of the tube with the attached string to wear around your neck. You know, the original lip accessory that came decades before the recent surge of lip products with carriers and added accessories of today 😉.
Thanks for waiting a whole year to see this stunning collection come together. Bonne Bell promoted this collection two years in a row, for Holiday 1984 and 1985, (which is why I split this into two posts) and made so many merry memories with this star-studded seasonal line up. Though there were six Biggy flavors total, I have an incredible memory of a rare Smacker that I believe was also part of this collection. I won’t share too much until I’m reunited with it again ;). It's wild to think about how much fragrance and flavors can literally stop you in your tracks and take your breath away. Bonne Bell did it so well with their amazing flavor execution that ended up serving as a paramount place in time.
